Accreditation & Licensure

The American InterContinental University System is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (hlcommission.org), an institutional accreditation agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

In addition to institutional accreditation by the HLC, the System also has several programs that are programmatically accredited.

ACBSP: The business programs at AIU, select business programs at Trident, and the Business Administration programs at CalSouthern are accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP).

AAQEP: AIU is a member in good standing of the Association for Advancing Quality in Educator Preparation (AAQEP). The Master of Education program has been awarded full accreditation by AAQEP through June 30, 2026.

CCNE: The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree programs at CalSouthern are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).

State Licensure

The American InterContinental University System is licensed by the Arizona State Board for Private Postsecondary Education.

American InterContinental University in Atlanta is authorized by the State of Georgia to operate by the Nonpublic Postsecondary Education Commission (NPEC): 2082 East Exchange Place, Suite 220, Tucker, GA 30084-5305. gnpec.georgia.gov.

American InterContinental University in Houston is authorized by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board to offer degrees and courses leading to degrees in Texas. For Houston campus students only: THECB student complaint information is codified under 19 TAC§§1.110-1.120.

Distance Education State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement (NC-SARA)

Aimed at expanding distance education opportunities for students, the National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (NC-SARA) is an organization that establishes comparable national standards for the interstate offering of postsecondary distance education courses and programs. The American InterContinental University System has been approved to participate in NC-SARA.
