About AIUS

Accreditation & Licensure

The American InterContinental University System is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (hlcommission.org), an institutional accreditation agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

In addition to institutional accreditation by the HLC, the System also has several programs that are programmatically accredited.

ACBSP: The business programs at AIU, select business programs at Trident, and the Business Administration programs at CalSouthern are accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP).

AAQEP: American InterContintental University's Master of Education (M.Ed.), is programmatically accredited by the Association for Advancing Quality in Educator Preparation (AAQEP).

CCNE: The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree programs at CalSouthern are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).

State Licensure

The American InterContinental University System is licensed by the Arizona State Board for Private Postsecondary Education.

American InterContinental University in Atlanta is authorized by the State of Georgia to operate by the Nonpublic Postsecondary Education Commission (NPEC): 2082 East Exchange Place, Suite 220, Tucker, GA 30084-5305. gnpec.georgia.gov.

American InterContinental University in Houston is authorized by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board to offer degrees and courses leading to degrees in Texas. For Houston campus students only: THECB student complaint information is codified under 19 TAC§§1.110-1.120.

State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (SARA)

The State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (SARA) is an agreement among member states, districts, and territories that establishes comparable national standards for interstate postsecondary distance education. The American InterContinental University System participates in SARA through the Arizona SARA Council.
